Tutorial - OCT Surround

This is an extension of the OCT microphone system tutorial.

It actually is an OCT setup with two more cardioids pointing to the back.
The setup is very straightforward and there are just some tiny tricks in the sequence of setting things up.
Usually we start with one red ball on a microphone stand. This time we start with two red balls connected by one pipe.

The advantage of OCT is, you can setup the recording angle at the venue to meet your imaginations of how it should sound.
But let your ears be your judge. The number (as shown in the article) are just orientation points for your convenience.

We like the OCT-Surround setup, as it is very easy to setup, it delivers a nice and very stable reproduction of the soundscape.

Without any further ado: Have fun and happy recording and HERE is the tutorial. The shopping list can be found HERE

You may not always have supercardioids or hypercardioids available. However, that is no reason to forgo using the OCT-Surround for your recordings.
You can also use cardioids in all positions. Honestly, the results probably won't be the same, but it's always much better than nothing.
