Linear ORTF-3D Outdoor Set
Linear ORTF-3D Outdoor Set
The "Linear ORTF-3D" is based on Schoeps's proven ORTF-3D technique.
It was developed by Felix Krückels (Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences) and Helmut Wittek (Schoeps's CEO).
In scenarios where the microphone's placement precludes a central positioning within the auditory environment, it nevertheless furnishes a realistic and spatiotemporally balanced auditory ambience across eight channels (e.g., for Dolby Atmos).
As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words:

This is how it was invented!
The more interesting view is the graph, with the directions of the microphones.

We would expect that a downward tilt of -20° means this system is intended to be placed quite high up.
We will work on it to create a budget-friendly rebuild. It won't be that nice or that compact. But it won't cost you half a fortune, either.
As far as we can tell now, this won't be an easy thing to do. A lot of tinkering will be needed.
Stay tuned.
