Linear ORTF-3D

The "Linear ORTF-3D" is based on Schoeps's proven ORTF-3D technique.
It was developed by Felix Krückels (Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences) and Helmut Wittek (Schoeps's CEO).

In scenarios where the microphone's placement precludes a central positioning within the auditory environment, it nevertheless furnishes a realistic and spatiotemporally balanced auditory ambience across eight channels (e.g., for Dolby Atmos).

We would expect that a downward tilt of -20° means this system is intended to be placed quite high up.

We made our very first version of a rebuild and it isn't ready for outdoor use, yet. But it works, even if the microphones are just regular cardioids SDCs.

The steel eyed readers will notice that these aren't neither super- nor hyper-cardioid microphones. You are very right!

Our hyper-cardioid microphones are currently in use in another array. But when you can build regular ORTF setups with cardioids, why you shouldn't try them in an ORTF-3D linear array?
