ECHO project - P3H Pyramid

This is also a very interesting microphone array of the ECHO project.

Unfortunately, we can't replicate this array. We are sorry for saying so, but there is no way to make it happen.

While it would be possible from a structural standpoint and given the gear used, its enormous size makes it very susceptible to vibrations. Even a microphone with a small windscreen and a slight breeze are enough to set the system vibrating and swinging. This not only leads to phasing-like artifacts in the sound, but it also pushes the rods to their structural limits pretty quickly.
For this system, you need sturdier rods and connections; otherwise, you run the risk of damaging the parts or even breaking them.

Unfortunately, we had to stop the very first test recordings because we were worried about our equipment. What we can say, however, is that it creates a very enveloping soundscape while still allowing for fairly precise localization of sound sources.

It’s a real shame, but we’ve reached a limit here that we can’t cross.

But maybe someone with sturdier equipment on hand could try building this system and let us know how it goes resp. how it sounds?!
