Multicore splitter - Rain cover

Multicore splitter - Rain cover

Our splitters are quite affordable, but they are not waterproof.
It's a trade-off: if you want something easily accessible and waterproof, it will cost you more money. It's a bit like trying to square the circle.
However, rain in the splitters is not good at all.

This is a close-up of one of our splitters. One problem area is where the four conductors enter the metal case.
The other problem area is the connector at the bottom. This connection isn't waterproof, either.
What can we do?

First, we use insulation tape to seal off the inlet for the four conductors.  It's not the most attractive solution, but it gets the job done.
Ensure that the four conductors come straight out of the clamp.
Next, take a small plastic bag and cut a small hole in the closed end. The hole should be big enough to let the RJ-45 connector through, as shown in the next picture.

Put the splitter into the bag and adjust it so you can connect the RJ-45 connector at the bottom.

Now, fold the open end of the bag over. Seal it with insulation tape. You can also use any other tape you have on hand. Make sure it is completely sealed so that no water can get through.

Once it is sealed, we can move on to the next step: closing the multicore side. The end is folded and sealed with insulation tape.

Et voilà! This is complete rain protection at almost no cost.
It's not the most beautiful solution, but it works.
