USB-A to Hirose 4 pin connector
USB-A to Hirose 4 pin connector
For our Zoom F8n and Zoom F8n Pro, the internal batteries are usually used. This makes everything more convenient and easier to handle.
However, these batteries do not provide power for very long. They usually last for two hours or just a little bit longer, if you record 8 tracks with 32 bit (float) with 192 kHz and record on both SD cards. This is power consuming at it's max. But this is the way we usually work and it pays.
If you are out in the field, you may need power for longer than that.
We use standard external power banks, which are widely available. Nowadays, power banks with USB-A connectors are becoming rare, but they are still available.
The question is, how do you connect a USB-A output to a Hirose 4-pin input?
We found the "PowerBank 5V 2A USB to Hirose 4-Pin Male 12V DC Power Cable" (approximately 2 feet long) from "HangTon" at your favorite online store.

It's not cheap (~ 40 USD), but it offers a DC upscaler to 12V, which provides a very good operating range for the electronics inside the Zoom F8ns!
However, there is a little downside!
The cables are quite thin, and the holder that keeps the cable in place in the Hirose connector is not very durable.
We will soon provide a tutorial on how to fix this issue. Please check the "Tutorials - Easy" category sometime later.
