Plug-ins
Plug-ins
Plug-ins are small software components that expand the capabilities of your digital audio workstation (DAW). They are available in various formats for different DAWs.
When used with Ambisonic, plug-ins offer additional features and possibilities. A new Ambisonic plug-in emerges every week. At least.
We provide a list of "must-haves" to help you get started.
The second list contains recommendations that we think you should consider in the future. Not all of them are free.To be clear, you don't need to purchase any plug-ins to get started. However, as you gain experience, your requirements will become more demanding, so it's useful to have some guidance.
We provide this list free of charge for your convenience. We receive no money or other benefits for mentioning a plug-in, and we would refuse to do so. All of our recommendations are our humble opinion.
You may have a different opinion, and that's what makes the world colorful and wonderful.
The lists are updated at irregular intervals and are available for download on this page.
For your convenience these lists, will be also available as a PDF document for download. They will be always in sync with this side.
So you have your "wish-list" always at hand ... and be careful of what you wish!
Free Plug-ins:
IEM Suite:
The IEM Suite is a suite of useful and widely used plug-ins which are provided HERE.
The authors are focussing more on great sound, than on highly sophisticated GUIs. So with this Suite of plug-ins, you can start to discover the fascinating univers of immersive audio.
If you are looking for an opportunity to render all your great ambisonic recordings to your headphones, you've come to the right place. Look for the "Binaural Decoder" on THIS pages and check it out.
Or figure out, what the "DistanceCompensator" can do for your mix. And with the "EnergyVisualizer" you get an optical feedback of the energy in your virtual space.
To say it short: With this suite you will get more than enough plug-ins to get started and even later, with more experiences, you will come back to these plug-ins.
SPARTA:
Spatial Audio Real-Time Applications are not from Sparta, Greek, but from the Acoustics Lab at Aalto University, Finland.
This suite is also very powerful, but some plug-ins may sound different from the IEM suite. We are not saying, better or worse, just different. And this applys to many things in the music-business, doesn't it?
Even if they say, that all plug-ins have been tested with Reaper (64 bit), you chances are very good, that these plug-ins will work with other DAWs too. This hasn't been tested with all of them, That's all they are saying.
We never had any problems, when we used these plug-ins in an other DAW than Reaper.
One great feature is: These plug-ins run on Linux, MacOS and Windows.
... and they are free.
The approach and the vision are a little different from the IEM suite, but this comes in as a big advantage: You can increase your possibilities by using the plug-ins of both suites, where it meets your taste and what you want to achieve.
Payed Plug-ins:
Audiobrewers
On their website, you can find the latest information about the features of the available plug-ins. These are the plug-ins that we mainly use. However, when you need something unusual or special, these plug-ins will be your source of inspiration.
After much discussion, we finally agreed on which plug-ins to feature here.
ALL ;-)
Highlighting one would mean overlooking the others, and they are all great.
We would like to make it clear that we receive no advantages nor money from "audiobrewers" for saying so. This is just our humble opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.
Still not sure? Head over to their page and watch their great YouTube videos. We approve of how anything sounds in these videos. However, the sound quality in the videos isn't as good as it is when you use these plug-ins in your digital audio workstation (DAW). This is due to YouTube's sound system.
We offer an additional landing page where we discuss how to use these plug-ins with our systems. It's just an example of what a workflow might look like. We presume, that the performance of all the other plug-ins will be marvelous as well and result in the same outcomes.
