Light stands

Light stands

There are a number of light and quick-to-set-up lighting stands. They can usually carry about 2 kg, and sometimes even more, which means they can safely support larger ambisonic microphone systems.
Some of these stands have the option of removing or unscrewing the pole in the middle so that it can be used as a boom, too.

The problem is that many of them have a 1/4“ thread, while most threads used in the audio industry are 3/8”. You should make sure that you have the necessary adapters to hand or that they are already screwed firmly onto the tripod.

Lighting stands usually have a larger diameter on their three legs. This makes them more stable in use. If there are stones and the ground is not completely level, they can usually still be used. However, if you want to record on a hill or stairs, this becomes quite a challenge, if not impossible. You might get along with some extra sponges, but .. you know. It's not always a great idea.
