ECHO project

The ECHO project in their own words:
"The ECHO Project invited seven expert recording engineers to explore their approaches to immersive orchestral recording. Eight microphone arrays, each tailored to a specific recording scenario—classical, film score, or game soundtrack—were used to capture the performance of the London Contemporary Orchestra in both traditional and circular layouts at AIR Lyndhurst Hall on 17 Dec 2024. Below, each focus group recording engineer presents their rationale behind their chosen array. " (source)

The ECHO is an acronym for Exploring the Cinematic Hemisphere for Orchestra.

If you're interested in their excellent recordings using various microphone arrays, we recommend downloading the entire set of files, importing them into your preferred DAW, and enjoying them.
Due to the limited gear on our stock, we can just rebuild some of them.

Currently available are the "AirCage" system, the budget-rebuild of the great "PCMA-3D v2" microphone array, the microphone array called "PentaSphere" and "PAMA" have been published as well as the ESMA-3D array.
Unfortunately we can not rebuild the "P3H Pyramid" nor the "P3H Anamorphic" array due to their size and the same apply to the "2LPrism". We tried hard to make it happen, but it was not possible.

For the most actual status check out the article:

We are proud to present five of the eight arrays. We would love to share better news with you, but due to the limitations of our equipment, we can not do so.
There are reasons why there are other, more expansive types of gear, but this result is good with the gear that we have.

We hope you will have as much fun in using them and you will get blown away by their impressive and awesome soundscapes.
