DMS - Rendering in post
You came here, because you already made some great recordings with our suggestion about an DMS microphone system, right?
So let us say something upfront. What we will show here is NOT the only way to do it.! As always there are many others and they surely work great as well. We describe this way, because we know from experiences that it works reliable.
From DMS to ambisonic
You made some great recordings and now you want to process them into ambisonic? - No problem!
We use the 'ab Encoder MS' to do this. It's very convenient and very intuitive to use and not really expansive.
But before we can use this plugin, we must prepare something to make it work, at least in the current version.
The plugin expects the front-cardioid signal on channel 1 and the rear-cardioid's signal on channel 3. As we don't have a native figure of eight microphone, we need to do a little trick here:
Create a bus in your DAW and route the signal of the cardioid microphone pointing to left on the left channel and the other microphone to the right channel. NO panning!
This bus MUST be a mono-track!
Then route this mono bus to channel 2 of the plugin and ... have fun.
