Software
Software
Software has become a native part of sound-engineering over the last decades.
When we talk about software we are talking about operating-systems of once computer, we talk about DAWs and we talk about Plug-ins.
Operating system of you computer
There are the "main three" when it comes down to the sound-sector:
Linux, MacOS and Windows.
The most important operating system is probably MacOS, followed by Windows and an ever-growing group of Linux enthusiasts.
We at ambisonic.studio would love to run everything on Linux, but that's more of a dream than reality. Development in the ambisonic context focuses on the “main operating systems” such as MacOS and Windows.
We really regret this, but we have to acknowledge that this represents the vast majority of users.
But maybe things will turn out for the best.
DAW - Digital Audio Workstation
A DAW is a software that runs on a computer on top of the operating system of a computer.
It is used to create and/or manipulate music-signals in a digital format.
There are many, many great DAWs out there and all have their advantages. But when it comes to working with ambisonic recordings the number of DAWs which are capable of that, decreases significantly.
We at ambisonic.studio are working with Reaper and this is on the one hand because it provides the needed features and on the other hand, it runs on all there operating systems. So we are flexible.
Every visitor of this site may have a different choice and it is a great choice. But when it comes to screenshot and explainations, pleae bear with us, that we are just showing how to do it in Reaper. Otherwise the effort to keep this page (almost) actual would explode and we had to quit, as we love to share the knowledge we have and gain.
But we are neither web-admins, nor web-content creators - We are sound engineers having great fun when recording sounds with ambisonic gear.
Plug-Ins
Plug-Ins are tiny and/or small pieces of software, that extend the capabilities of a DAW. They are provided in different formats for several families of DAWs.
In the context of ambisonic they are providing some additional functionality and capabilities.Especially in the context of ambisonic, there appears a new plug-in every week. At least.
We will show some plug-ins as our selection of the ever growing offer on the market. It may happen, that our visitors discover some intersting plug-in and can't find any information about it on this site.
Yes! This is very likely to happen. In this case, please drop us an email and we will have a look ourselves. And if we also think, this is a new "must-have", we will write something about it.
If it is not suiteable for our demands and/or requirements, we have to appologize and ask for your understanding. We write about things we know and use - only!
And maybe we change our minds some time later.
If you like what you have seen, please consider a tip via Ko-Fi. Thank you!
