General information
Here you will find several articles and other information to guide you on your way to ambisonic.
DOs and DONTs
Let's start with the DOs and DONTs. This article does not demand to be complete, but being a kind of a living document. Details will be added once we remember to put them there.
Get permission or be sorry
It depends on the country in which you live, as well as the laws and regulations. You are not allowed to record everywhere. In some countries, you could face serious consequences for recording in places where it is prohibited.
So, our advice is to ask for permission beforehand to avoid getting into trouble.
For example, in Germany: Everyone is allowed to walk through a train station at any time it is accessible. You can stay, walk around, look around, eat, drink, or sit there.
However, you are not allowed to record any sound without written permission! There are serious penalties, so be aware!
AmbiX convention
For the AMBISONICS SYMPOSIUM 2011, on June 2-3 in Lexington, KY, Christian Nachbar, Franz Zotter, Etienne Deleflie and Alois Sontacchi made a proposal for an ambisonic format called "AmbiX".
"Ambisonics is a 3D audio surround rendering and representation approach based on spherical harmonics with loudspeaker independent transmission channels. Although it was developed in the seventies and the techniques are well known, there are disagreements how to normalize, store and exchange Ambisonic data.
Backups are for wimps
This is common saying in the IT industrie and just means the opposite.
You won't be the first and neither be the last who lost great recordings by not making backups of the recorded files.
In the article "Backups are for wimps" we talk about the importance of backups and how to do them.
